Milo Rau
studierte Soziologie, Germanistik und Romanistik in Paris, Zürich und Berlin, u. a. bei Tzvetan Todorov und Pierre Bourdieu. Ab 1997 erste Reportagereisen (Chiapas, Kuba), ab 2000 tätig als Autor für die „Neue Zürcher Zeitung“, ab 2003 Arbeit als Regisseur und Autor im In- und Ausland, u. a. am Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, HAU Berlin, Theaterhaus Gessnerallee Zürich, Teatrul Odeon Bukarest und Beursschouwburg Brüssel. Milo Rau gründete im Jahr 2007 für die Produktion und Auswertung seiner künstlerischen Arbeiten die Theater- und Filmproduktionsgesellschaft IIPM, die er seitdem leitet. Seine Theaterinszenierungen und Filme wurden zu den wichtigsten nationalen und internationalen Festivals eingeladen, u. a. zum „Festival d’Avignon“, zum „Berliner Theatertreffen“, dem „Noorderzon Festival Groningen“, den „Wiener Festwochen“, dem „Kunstenfestival Brüssel“ und zu „Radikal Jung“, wo er mit dem Regie- und Kritikerpreis ausgezeichnet wurde. Neben seiner Arbeit für Bühne und Film ist Milo Rau als Dozent für Regie, Kulturtheorie und soziale Plastik an Universitäten und Kunsthochschulen tätig.
Er ist Gründer des IIPM – International Institute of Political Murder und wurde zuletzt mit dem ITI-Preis zum Welttheatertag 2016 und der Saarbrücker Poetikdozentur für Dramatik 2017 geehrt. Ab der Spielzeit 2018/19 ist Rau Künstlerischer Direktor des Nationaltheaters Gent.

Since 2002 he has published over fifty plays, films, books and actions. His productions have been invited to all the major international festivals, including the Berliner Theatertreffen, the Festival d’Avignon, the Venice Biennale, Vienna Festival and the Brussels Kunstenfestivaldesarts. His works have been seen in over thirty countries throughout the world. He has received numerous awards including the World Theatre Day’s ITI Award in 2016, the Peter Weiss Prize in 2017, the 3sat Prize 2017 and the Saarbrück Poetics Lectureship for drama, 2017. In 2018 he received the European Theatre Prize, and in 2019 he received the first honorary doctorate from the Theatre department of the Lund University (Sweden). Milo Rau has been head of NTGent since the 2018/2019 season.
Since 2002, he has put out over 50 plays, films, books and actions. His productions have appeared at all of the major international festivals. Milo Rau has been head of NTGent since the 2018/2019 season. He has received numerous awards and most recently an honorary doctorate from the theater department of the University of Lund.
