Rückstichheftung mit 32 Seiten, Format: 210 x 280 mm
Every three years, the members of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ) meet at their global congress. Now it is 2005 and it is our 15th congress from the 20th until the 30th September in Montreal. Itwill be an autumn ofcolours from around the world, a season of youth. More than three dozen shows are the foeus of events, followed by discussion forums, exhibitions for theatre arts, readings from repertoires, workshops led by professionals and a birthday party far the 40th Anniversary of ASSITEJ International. Almost 80 centres from around the world will gather at the General Assembly and consult on the future ofthe organizations which UNESCO established. These organizations represent the interests and rights for children and young people in art and culture. ASSITEJ International develops contact between practitioners in the field of arts for young audiences through its strong national and international networks, encouraging the promotion, production, creation and diffusion ofTheatre for Children and Young People. The concept of worldwide exchange is connected with the hope of propagating inspiration and innovation for cultural diversity as weil as maintaining this cooperation beyond all boundaries.
The World Congress and the International Festival in Montreal are welcome events to document the landscape of the Children's and Young People's Theatre in Germany. The various articles in this issue of the "IXYPSILONZETT" theatre magazine are dealing with the practice and theory ofthe cultural phenomenon of a theatre art dedicated to a particular target group: children and young people. The tide of"IXYPSILONZETT", a publication of the German ASSITEJ, is taken from a play by the famous author Friedrich Karl Waechter who combined the last three letters of the alphabet to form a name. The "ABC" of theatre arts seems to be more important than ever. It is time to recognize the signs of the times. It is time to cultivate the pedagogical element of communication which is inherent to theatre: It will tell us something. It's a matter ofdeclining the alphabet oflive on stage with the greatest of ease. Like in the literature for children that already since the "Orbis Pictus" is contributed to learning about the world in a playful way.
There are many theatres for children and young people. Children and young people have ample opportunities to see shows during and after school time, on all days of the week throughout the year in cities and in rural areas. Some theatres have their own playhouse, but mobile theatre groups go to schools and culture centres. Through years of working together, various companies have respectively developed a unique artistic trademark. Realistic plays, adaptations from fairy tales and stories from books are performed. All performance forms for Children's and Young People's Theatre are possible as drama, puppet theatre, opera, or dance theatre, etc. State and community public support has made Children's and Young People's Theatre possible and yet cultural and political demands must still be made for it. After German reunification, two very differently, politically evolved scenes grew together. The German Children's and Young People's theatres cooperate with each other from time to time and often have an exchange at numerous fes tivals. They meet at the biennial German Children's and Young People's Theatre Meeting in Berlin and also at the Frankfurt Playwright's Forum on the first December weekend every year. They find support for continuing and further education in the Children's and Young People's Theatre Centre in the Federal Republic of Germany, initiated and sponsored by the national ASSITEJ. I personally would like to express my gratitude to the staff of this important establishment for promoting the Children's and Young People's Theatre by making this publication possible.
May this magazine inform and invite everybody: Please, take part, visit us, explore the Theatre for Children and Young People in Germany. We weIcome you. The German Theatre needs the international exchange, because Children and young people live in one Scene which they deserve to see on their stages.
